Secondary One Level Camp
Our Sec 1 students participated in their non-residential level camp themed ‘Starting Right’ on 1 and 2 February. Recognising their recent transition from primary to secondary school, the camp was specially crafted to impart skills and knowledge for our students to start right and be effective students in Katong Convent. Besides helping our students to become more self-aware, a set of social skills was also introduced to the students to develop the socio-emotional competencies of care and concern for others and build positive relationships. Secondary Two Level Camp Secondary Two Level Camp
The Sec 2 Outdoor Adventure Camp 2018 was held from 1 to 3 February at the MOE Jalan Bahtera Adventure Campsite. Based on the foundational works on the philosophy of outdoor education by Dr. Kurt Hahn, our PE department conceptualised an outdoor learning experience which challenged the students to get out of their comfort zones and enhanced the development of self-esteem and confidence in an out-of-classroom environment. This annual 3-day-2-night residential camp is a signature programme designed with a multi-pronged approach to achieve multiple objectives, especially those related to school values as well as competencies for the 21 century for our Sec 2 cohort.
Secondary Three Level Camp
The annual Sec 3 level camp ha a dual purpose of strengthening
class relationships through class bonding activities as well as cultivating a
spirit of compassion, empathy, tolerance and respect in students as they reached out to the less fortunate in the community. Because the 2-day camp happened early in the year, the newly-formed Sec 3 classes benefited from the class bonding and getting-to-know-each-other-better sessions yet at the same time enabling them to relax and have fun. The camp also marked the start of the students’ service learning journey for their Sec 3 year as they learned more about service learning and the planning of their respective class projects.Secondary Four / Five Career Seminar.
Secondary Four/ Five Career Seminar
“Dreams Today, Reality Tomorrow” was the theme of the KC Career Seminar this year, organised for the Sec 4 and 5 students on 1 February 2018. We had the privilege of hosting Dr Ho Seng Beng (Senior Scientist, AI Program and Institute of High Performance Computing, A*STAR) as our keynote speaker for the event. He shared his personal journey as well as the myriad of career opportunities available in the field of technology.
Following this, the students attended four breakout sessions which they had selected from a wide-ranging list of twenty-seven career talks. Earlier in the year, the students had the opportunity to indicate their career interests through a needs analysis that was conducted. We were very grateful that we were able to cater to most of their interests through the enthusiastic support from PTSG members, alumni and personal contacts of KC staff. From hospitality to law, entrepreneurship, business development, food safety and innovation, marine biology, events management, accountancy, veterinary science, banking, digital consultancy, urban planning, theatre, media, engineering and healthcare (doctors, nursing and allied health) – students had the opportunity to hear and ask questions about the realities of each career and the skillsets, education qualifications and dispositions required for each job.
