Programme Overview

Experience

The KC MTL programme aims to build a strong foundation in our students in their mastering of Mother Tongue Languages and inculcate moral values, cultures, heritages and traditions through daily classroom teaching and interactive learning activities.

Our team of MTL teachers constantly explores a repertoire of pedagogies to bring about meaningful learning experiences for our students. Lessons conducted are designed to develop in our students the 21st Century Competencies and help them see relevance to their daily lives. The MTL department also leverages on Information Communication and Technology (ICT) tools to facilitate quality teaching and learning of MTL.

Enrich

(i) MTL Fortnight

To promote the use of and to kindle students’ interest in the learning of MTL, a series of activities related to Mother Tongue languages and their associated cultures are planned for students of all levels during MTL Fortnight ever year.

(ii) MTL Publication

Every year, both the Chinese Language (CL) Unit and Malay Language (ML) Unit will organise a school-based MTL creative writing competition for all levels. To promote good writing habits and enhance students’ writing skills, the CL unit had organised Narrative writing workshops for Lower Secondary level. In our efforts to showcase students’ work and encourage creative writing among our young writers, both units have each come up with an annual publication. The MTL publication is a collection of selected essays from students’ daily work as well as winning entries from our yearly MTL Creative Writing competition. Students would receive a complimentary copy of this publication. Through this, the department hopes that students will find these essays a delightful read as they prepare for their examinations or read them at leisure during the coming school holidays.

(iii) MTL Cultural Appreciation

Every year, the department will participate in the MOE-Committee to Promote Chinese Language/ Malay Language Learning-Cultural Programme Exposure Scheme (CPCLL-CPES)/ (CPMLL-CPES) to bring our Secondary Three students out to watch a MTL drama performance.
