CHIJ Katong Convent’s spirituality programme offers a suite of contemplative practices and experiences to ground and center everyone regardless of her faith. To develop communion, connection, and awareness of God, self and others, the school makes room for the following:
School Ethos inspired by Founder
Blessed Barrè’s beliefs are shared by the school leaders at the start of each school year and during induction for new staff:

Annual Theme based on Scriptures
The theme is shared at meetings, school assemblies and programmes. For 2026, the theme is “Trust in the Lord and do good.” (Psalm 37:3)
The beliefs and theme undergird how members of KC care, learn and interact with one another, guided by God’s words and Christian values.
Morning Reflection
Morning reflection is a daily occurrence in KC, with students and staff, regardless of faith, coming forward to share their experiences and learning with the rest of the school. The reflections and sharing follow a thematic approach designed by the school chaplaincy team to focus on faith, IJ identity and mission, and values. As part of this reflection, there is also a short sharing of the Gospel. In line with the Church’s liturgical calendar, this year being Year A, the Gospel readings are taken from the Gospel of Matthew, helping us reflect on Jesus’ teachings and how they guide our daily lives. At the end of each morning reflection is a prayer, led by a Catholic student, inviting the whole school community to pause, reflect, and begin the day with gratitude and purpose.
Mid-Day Prayer
Mid-day prayer takes place daily at 11.50 a.m. where the whole school pauses to listen to a scripture reading, a hymn or a prayer.
Eucharistic Celebrations
Masses are celebrated monthly (where possible) and according to the liturgical calendar. There are also masses that are held in conjunction with key milestones in the school year such as Beginning of Year Mass, Founder’s Day Mass, Teachers’ Day Mass and End of Year Mass.
CCE Lessons
The CCE resources are enhanced to highlight Christian values and Catholic Social Teachings where appropriate.
