Our Goals

Programme Overview

KC Science programme is carried out largely during curriculum time and at all levels. Parallel programmes are implemented for the different branches of Science, viz. Lower Secondary Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Broad details of the programme are summarised in the table:

Strand Programme
Experience To enhance quality teaching and learning (T&L) through 4 key ways:
  1. Clarity and brevity of instruction;
  2. Infuse answering techniques within the curriculum; and
  3. Contextualise examination techniques within the curriculum.
  4. Sharpen the nexus between learning and real-life applications through applied learning
Enrich To deepen the learning of an identified segment of the student population through enriched experiences to learn new skills and pursue one’s interest.
Extend High-progress science students are identified and mentored for in-house talent programme and external competitions to stretch their potential and network with other students.

Lower Secondary Science

At the lower secondary level, we implement the spiral progression in Science curriculum. The curriculum is designed to allow our students to learn a wide variety of concepts, skills and attitudes to participate in scientific discourse, and to apply these in their daily lives. Spiral progression strengthens the mastery of skills appropriate to our students’ cognitive stages.

Biology is a scientific study of life. The study of Biology not only allows the students to understand themselves better in terms of how the different systems in the body work together but also allows the students to learn about the huge diversity in our environment. Through the curriculum, students are able to explore and learn about the 4 main themes of Biology: principles of Biology, maintenance and regulation of life processes, continuity of life, and man and his environment. Our curriculum has less emphasis on factual materials, but a greater emphasis on the understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles.

Chemistry is the central science that shares connections with many diverse subjects. It provides an important understanding of the world through the study of matter and its interactions.
Through the 6 main themes in Chemistry, viz. experimental chemistry, atomic structure and stoichiometry, chemistry of reactions, periodicity, atmosphere and organic chemistry, students are trained to think logically and systematically. Notwithstanding, our curriculum affords learning experiences for greater appreciation of the importance of chemistry and its application in everyday life and in industries.

  • 6091 (Revised Physics)

Physics involves the study of nature and properties of matter and energy. It is commonly divided into major topics such as general physics, thermal physics, light, waves and sound, electricity and magnetism.
By studying Physics, students can understand how things work from the first principles – from the big solar system to tiny particles called atoms. Our curriculum places an emphasis on using a wide variety of learning experiences designed to develop scientific literacy, problem solving skills and good attitudes relevant to science. The aim is for students to be suitably prepared and stimulated for studies beyond the Ordinary-level in Physics, Applied Sciences or in Science-dependent vocational courses.
