Art (Enhanced Art Programme)


Our Goals


CHIJ Katong Convent’s Enhanced Art Programme (KC EAP) is undergirded by KC’s robust Arts culture in Communication, Performance, and the Visual Arts. As articulated in KC’s Graduate Profile, KC EAP aspires to develop her students to be innovative problem solvers, effective communicators, compassionate servant leaders, and discerning citizens of the world using the lens and language of Visual Arts. KC EAP balances the domains of making and thinking by steeping our students in both the studio practice and language of creative thinkers.


Programme Overview


The programme develops her students’ interest and their talents in Visual Arts through KC’s three-tiered E3 approach. This includes:

Experience - exposing all lower secondary students to a content-rich foundational Arts curriculum,
Enrich - deepening their learning with a variety of enrichment opportunities, and
Extend - nurturing talents through its advanced art modules.

KC EAP is designed to help our students acquire an appreciation for traditional and contemporaneous art forms such as painting, printmaking, illustration, fashion design, graphic design, sculpture and digital photography. Our students are guided to gain an understanding of not only the visual arts but also their own passions and aspirations. Interested Secondary 2 students may opt to enter the MOE-supported programme by offering Art at GCE 'O' Level in Upper Secondary. Students of the programme have graduated to pursue diverse careers in fine art, 2-D and 3-D design, as well as arts management.



Competitions/Enrichment Activities/Workshops


There is a rich plethora of activities which students can choose to be part of:


  • School-wide Arts Immersion Programme (e.g. hand lettering, digital speed painting, batik painting, The Big Draw, Zentangle class signboard)
  • Community Art Projects (e.g. painting of school swings, hosting of post-exams workshops to students by students)
  • Upper Secondary EAP workshops (e.g. urban sketching, classical animation, typesetting, I-LEAP inter-school workshops)
  • Showcasing work in art exhibitions and presentations (e.g. KC Book & Music Week, A Day in KC, Assembly Programme, Singapore Youth Festival)
  • Learning journeys and artist talks (e.g. Art Stage, National Gallery Singapore, The Private Gallery, Singapore Tyler Print Institute, Asian Civilization Museum)
  • Participation in competitions (e.g. NEmation, Yellowren Competition, Singapore Youth Festival)
  • Interdisciplinary learning (e.g. Vietnam Trip 2017, Arts &  Culture Pilot Programme)
